The 2nd annual Kuparisaari Tri is fast approaching! Here are some answers to frequently asked questions regarding this year’s race:

Where will the aid stations be and what will be offered?

There will be 2-3 aid stations along the bike course offering:
HEED (bottle exchange)
Water (bottles)

There will be aid stations approximately every mile on the run course offering:
HEED (cups)
Water
Hammer gels
Fruit
Defizzed cola

What is the expected water temperature on race day?

Water temperature is typically around 70F and wetsuits are strongly recommended

Are there age requirements?

Entrants must be 18 years of age on race day.

What age group will I race in on race day?

All age group athletes must compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete’s age on December 31 of the year of the event.

Why do I have to be a member of USAT or buy a one-day license and what does that insurance cover?
The USAT membership is our insurance for the event. For more information about the benefits of being a member of USAT, please visit this website. You can download a one-day permit application in advance here: http://www.usatriathlon.org/member-services/single-event-permit
What is the Age Group breakdown?
18-24
25-29
30-34
35-39
40-44
45-49
50-54
55-59
60-64
65+ (division may be expanded if 70+ athletes register)


Can I take my car on the race course to watch my athlete?

No, for safety reasons we ask that you do not attempt to follow your athlete by car. The best place to watch your athlete is in the transition area and the finish line. Any vehicular traffic on the race course should expect delays. Please do not attempt to gain access to the race course with your vehicle. We want to keep the course as safe as possible for the athletes.

Will I be allowed to cross the finish line with my athlete?

You betcha!

What is the swim course like?

The 1.2-mile wave start swim course is a “P” shaped swim in Lac La Belle starting at the Lac La Belle Lodge beach and finishing at the boat launch.

What is the bike course like?

The 56-mile bike course takes athletes along the scenic Lake Superior shore for the first 20miles and then climbs up to the town of Mohawk where athletes will ride along US41. Please note that US41 is NOT closed to traffic and drafting and line rules will be enforced. The course is relatively hilly after mile 20.

What is the run course like?

The 13.1-mile Y-shaped course is a mixture of flat shoreline road running and steep incline on a two-track gravel road.

What are the courses cut off times?

Swim: 1 hour and 10 minutes after start
Bike: 5 hours and 30 minutes after start
Run: 8 hours and 30 minutes after start

What is the Refund/Withdrawal Policy?

Withdrawal requests must be received in writing via e-mail to info@kuparitri.com. Without exception, all requests must be received on or before July 30, 2011 to be eligible for transfer or deferral. Sorry, we cannot offer refunds.
